Why I Am Focusing on Local SEO for Service Businesses Now
I did not start my career in a fancy office with a view of a city.
I started in a basement.
Before I ever looked at a keyword or a ranking report, I was a tow truck dispatcher.
I spent my nights and days answering phones and dealing with people in crisis.
If your car breaks down at 3 AM on a rainy highway, you are not looking for a “lifestyle brand.”
You are looking for the person who can get to you the fastest and solve your problem.
That job taught me everything I needed to know about urgency and results.
It also taught me that when someone needs help, they go to Google and click the first thing they see.
If you are not that first thing, you do not exist.
From Tow Trucks to the Wild West of Cannabis
I eventually left the dispatching job and taught myself SEO.
I spent over 11 years in the game.
The last 4 years were spent almost entirely in the cannabis industry.
Working with dispensaries is like playing SEO on the highest difficulty setting.
You cannot run traditional ads.
You have to deal with strict word bans and regulations that change every week.
It is a world where one wrong move gets your business deleted from the internet.
I loved that challenge.
I still work with those brands because I know how to navigate the landmines that blow up other agencies.
But something started to happen recently.
I started looking at the businesses my friends and family own.
I saw them getting burned.
The Big Agency Burn
I have friends who are electricians.
I have family members who run roofing companies and landscaping businesses.
They are all amazing at what they do.
But they are not marketers.
They hire these big “national” agencies that promise them the world.
These agencies charge thousands of dollars a month and send back a “monthly report” that is 20 pages of fluff.
They talk about “brand awareness” and “social engagement.”
They do not talk about how many times the phone actually rang.
It makes me angry.
I built my business from nothing.
I know what it is like to start with free tools because you do not have a budget.
Seeing a hard-working plumber or roofer get charged for “SEO” that is just a template from 2018 is wrong.
That is why I am shifting my focus toward local SEO for service businesses.
I want to take the high-stakes strategies I used to triple revenue for clients and give them to the people I know.
Why Local SEO for Service Businesses Is High Stakes
If you are an electrician, your business lives and dies by the “emergency” call.
When a panel box is sparking or a house is dark, that homeowner is not doing “research.”
They are on their phone typing “electrician near me.”
If you are in the Map Pack, you get the job.
If you are on page two, you are invisible.
This is exactly like the cannabis world.
When people cannot run ads, organic search is everything.
Local SEO for service businesses is about being the “tow truck” of the internet.
It is about being there at the exact moment of need.
The Niches I Am Digging Into
I am not trying to help every business in the world.
I like the “gritty” industries.
I like the businesses that involve getting your hands dirty and solving real problems.
Here are the specific niches where I am applying my “no fluff” strategy.
Electricians
Electrical work is driven by safety and code.
It is high-value work that requires immediate trust.
If your SEO does not communicate that you are the expert, people will keep scrolling.
Roofing and Restoration
Roofing is about huge jobs and insurance claims.
When a storm hits, the search volume spikes.
If your site is not ready for that spike, you lose out on thousands of dollars in a single afternoon.
Water and fire restoration is the same way.
It is pure urgency.
Pest Control and Garage Doors
These are the classic local niches.
They are competitive and full of “lead gen” sites that try to steal your traffic.
I know how to beat those sites because I have been doing it for years in the most regulated industry on earth.
The Basement Nerd Advantage
I do not have a fancy office.
I work from my basement with a 5-monitor setup that looks like a NASA command center.
I have WoW posters on the wall and a pink neon sign that says “hello.”
I am a nerd for data and rankings.
While big agencies are having “strategy meetings” about your “brand identity,” I am looking at your Google Business Profile.
I am checking your NAP consistency.
I am finding the keywords that your competitors are too lazy to target.
I am doing the actual work.
I learned how to get an SEO job by proving I could get results.
I am bringing that same “prove it” energy to local service businesses.
No Fluff Only Results
The transition to local SEO for service businesses feels right.
It feels like going back to my roots in that tow truck dispatch office.
I want to help the guys who are out in the field doing the work.
I want to make sure the phone rings for the person who actually deserves the job.
I am tired of seeing good people get burned by bad marketing.
If you are an electrician or a roofer and you are tired of the agency BS, let’s talk.
I do not care about “brand awareness.”
I care about making sure you show up when people are looking for help.
That is what I have been doing since 2013.
And that is what I am going to keep doing right here from my basement.
